Another Beaked Whale washes up in Inishowen

first_imgA sixth beaked whale has reportedly washed up on the Donegal coast today in another unexplained stranding. The Inishowen Whales and Dolphins group reported that another Cuvier’s beaked whale was found at the Castles at the Isle of Doagh near Ballyliffin today (Thursday). This creature is one of six whales to wash up around Donegal and Mayo this week. So far, the cause of death is undetermined, while experts say the incidents are a clear ’cause for concern’. The Inishowen Whales and Dolphins group has suggested that today’s stranded whale should be marked in order to keep a record of the carcasses. If whales are brought out at the next high tide they may wash up again and be wrongly identified as another death. One possible reason being considered is that whales are being affected by sonar power underwater. However, no clear evidence has yet been found.Featured image from stranding at Gola Island by Donegal IWDGAnimal group claim whales may have been killed by naval sonar Another Beaked Whale washes up in Inishowen was last modified: August 9th, 2018 by Staff WriterShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:beaked whaleDonegal IWDGInishowenstrandinglast_img read more
