Domestic hockey player killed in Pakistan

first_imgPeshawar, Oct 19 (PTI) A domestic hockey player associated with a local club here was on Friday shot dead after some unidentified armed men open fired at him in northwest Pakistan, said police.Ziaur Rehman, who was in-charge of Qazi Mohib Hockey club, was killed in the premises of a sports complex in Bannu district of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.The armed men open fired at him due to an old enmity. The killer escaped from the spot, said the police.Later, the police shifted the body to DHQ hospital in Bannu.An employee of Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority, Rehman had represented WAPDA in a number of hockey events at the national level.Police said that it has started investigation into the killing. first_imgAsian Games gold medallists Divij Sharan and Rohan Bopanna will start their first tournament together – Tata Open Maharashtra as the top seeds in the men’s doubles event. The ATP 250 tournament, India’s only ATP Tour stop, will be played in Pune from December 31.Sharan, who briefly became India’s number one doubles player, and veteran Bopanna recently joined forces, keeping in mind the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.Radu Albot and Malek Jaziri will be the second seed while Phillip Oswald and Tim Puetz are seeded third.
