Playing from behind seems to be a challenge the Fort St. John Flyers don’t mind taking on.Despite finding themselves down 3-1, the Flyers showed great resilience, scoring five consecutive goals for a 6-3 game three victory and out-shooting the Generals 28-25.- Advertisement -Much like the first two games, Fort St. John found themselves short handed quickly after the opening face off. Flyers Captain Dave Alexander was assessed a penalty only seven seconds into the game, thanks to a high sticking infraction. Unfortunately for the captain, the penalty would be costly, as the Generals would score on the power play, giving Bentley a quick 1-0 lead.Just as the Generals did, Fort St. John scored their first goal of game three on the power play, 14:33 into the first, thanks to defensemen Kip Noble. Although, the period would not end in a draw, as shortly after the Flyers evened up the score, Bentley re-took the lead with only 3:50 left in the opening frame. The second period started off poorly for Fort St. John, as the Generals kept their early scoring streak alive, scoring only 26 seconds into the second. The quick goal gave the Generals a 3-1 lead.Midway through the second, Tyrell Mason and Chris Stevens found themselves on a two-on-none with the man advantage, thanks to a poor line change by Bentley. Mason, the puck carrier, needed no help from his teammate, as he pulled the puck to the backhand to score, cutting the Generals lead to one goal. The goal was the second power play goal for the Flyers in game three.Advertisement The Flyers kept the pressure coming, which would eventually pay off. After a hard working shift by Fast, Shipton and Horst, Jeff Shipton would bury the puck passed Galenza on the backhand, tying the game at threes, 13:08 into the second. The Flyers kept their foot on the offensive gas pedal and would be rewarded for their hard work. Todd Alexander scored with 4:36 left in the second period, giving the Flyers the 4-3 lead, their first lead of the game, as well as in the 2011 McKenzie Cup.Donny Lloyd would add some insurance, scoring five minutes into the third period, giving the Flyers a 5-3 lead. Lloyd’s goal would be the third goal scored by the Flyers defense in the game. The goals kept coming for Fort St. John, as Mike Stutzel would score with 8:17 remaining in the third. Stutzel took a Chris Stevens pass off his skate to his stick, snapping one past Galenza for a 6-3 Flyers lead. The goal was the Flyers fifth consecutively scored goal in the game.Advertisementlast_img read more
