first_img• Thousands of staff at Tesco, Britain’s biggest supermarket chain, are toshare in an £83m pay-out this month when its savings scheme matures. More than55,000 employees – nearly a third of the staff – will be told the size of theirwindfall in the next few days. They have been able to invest as little as £5 amonth, but those who put in the maximum £250 a month for five years willreceive almost £44,000. The Times NE One2One jobs boost • Mobile phone operator One2One is creating another 300 jobs in the NorthEast.The firm, which already employs 600 at its call centre on Sunderland’sDoxford Business Park, is expanding to cope with the growth in the mobileindustry. Its present centre will close in June when existing staff move to a newbuilding on the same estate. Recruitment for the new posts has begun. EveningChronicleAirline plans expansion • Ryanair, Europe’s biggest no-frills airline, has pledged to create 250jobs in Britain by the summer on the back of a surge in profits and passengertraffic. The Dublin-based carrier, which pioneered low-cost air travel inEurope, announced an increase in profits of about one-third in its latestquarterly figures and said it is soon to start services from a third Britishairport soon. Passenger numbers for the three months to December rose 17 percent to 1.4 million. Turnover leapt 35 per cent to £55.2m and pre-tax profitswere up from £9.5m to £12.3m. The Times New Rolls Royce deal • Aerospace giant Rolls Royce has announced a joint venture which willinclude the servicing of aero engines at its main UK factory. Under theagreement with Swiss-based SR Technics, repair and overhaul of Rolls Royce’sTrent 800 series will be carried out at the Derby plant. The programme will gointo operation next year, but the company said no new jobs will be created atDerby, which employs more than 13,000 employees. PA Related posts:No related photos.
