Amazon Looks To Cut Into Ticketmaster With New “Amazon Tickets” Service

first_imgIf there’s one part of the live music experience that most fans don’t like, it’s buying the tickets. High profile shows often become a mad dash to the finish line on Ticketmaster, and exorbitant fees always leave us groaning. Fortunately, Amazon is coming to the rescue with a new service, Amazon Tickets.Amazon launched “Amazon Tickets” in the UK last year, selling tickets to concerts and theater performances. By explaining fees upfront and connecting to your Amazon profile, the new Amazon Tickets platform was very well received for its initial launch. However, as recode reports, Amazon has recently put out job listings in new markets and hired new people in others, including the US, Europe and Asia. The job posting reads, “[O]ur vision goes beyond just selling tickets as we aim to disrupt the entire live entertainment experience, including what happens before, during and after the show… The ticketing business is ripe for innovation and improvement, as much of the industry has not fundamentally changed since the 1970s.”Though Ticketmaster/Live Nation do have a stronghold over the US ticket market, they would certainly face major competition from an Amazon ticketing service, especially if it is particularly well received.last_img
