first_imgErma BerrieErma Berrie, 83, of Oxford died on October 26, 2014 at her home in Oxford.Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Oxford Funeral Service Chapel. No visitation is scheduled. A memorial has been established with the Oxford Friendship Center and the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions can be left with the funeral home. For further information or to leave a condolence please visit www.oxfordfuneralservice.comErma Laurel (Alexander) Berrie was born December 10, 1930 the daughter of John Melvin and Laurel Marie (Peters) Alexander in Winfield, Kansas. She went to Mt. Zion rural school as a young child and later graduated from Oxford High School in 1948. Erma later attended the Colorado Women’s College from 2 years before graduating from Denver University with a degree in business.Erma was united in marriage to James Berrie on June 18, 1983 in Topeka, Kanas. Erma worked for the Colorado Sante Fe Railroad for a number of years before working for Beech and Cessna for over 30 years as an executive secretary.Erma enjoyed flower gardening, was an avid reader and Wichita Thunder Hockey fan and enjoyed playing games with friends and family. Her cats, Rascal, Sissy Wink and Trey were special to her and are considered members of the family.Surviving to honor her memory is her husband James Berrie of the home; children, Linda Johnston of Lawrence, KS, Steve Johnston and Sheryl Gleson of Oxford  two grandchildren, Alyssa Black and her husband Ian and Derek Gleson; three great grandchildren, Bradley, Reece and Zane, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.Preceding her in death are her parents and her brother DeVerne Alexander.last_img
