Pedestrian struck while jaywalking across the Alaska Highway

JOHN, B.C. – Mounties say that a pedestrian was involved in yesterday afternoon’s motor vehicle incident on the Alaska Highway.At approximately 2:00 p.m. on August 31st, the Fort St John RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Highway 97 and 104th St.The pedestrian, who was not in a designated pedestrian crosswalk, was attempting to cross the highway when they were struck by a vehicle, landing in the ditch on the North side of the Highway.- Advertisement -The pedestrian was taken to the hospital where they were treated for moderate, non-life-threatening injuries. The northbound lanes of the Alaska Highway were closed, causing minor backups on adjacent frontage roads. Members of the RCMP were seen speaking with eyewitnesses at the scene, before reopening the road at around 2:30 p.m.Police have determined that speed and alcohol were not a factor in the incident. The incident is still under investigation, and police say that no charges have been forwarded at this time.last_img read more
